International repatriation coordination

When a loved one passes away abroad, the process of bringing them home involves two separate sides: the sending country and Nigeria. SureRest manages the Nigerian side, giving families and overseas funeral homes a single, reliable point of contact from first notification through to final handover.

What this service is

International repatriation coordination covers everything SureRest handles once remains are in transit to Nigeria. This includes liaising with Nigerian authorities, processing Ministry of Health documentation, clearing the consignment through airport cargo after the Airway Bill arrives, arranging local transportation, and handing the deceased over to the family or their chosen funeral home.

SureRest also provides access to its dedicated Repatriation Tracking Platform, which allows overseas funeral home partners to securely upload required documentation, enter flight details, and update repatriation milestones in real time. Families receive secure login credentials to track progress, view status updates, and stay informed throughout the journey.

We currently serve Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Uyo.

Why it matters

Families in Nigeria are often managing grief while trying to understand a process taking place in another country and sometimes another language. Funeral homes abroad need a dependable local partner who understands Nigerian requirements and can actively manage the process from arrival to final delivery.

SureRest removes uncertainty by providing a single point of coordination and complete visibility through its tracking platform. Families no longer need to chase for updates, while partner funeral homes can confidently monitor progress and upload documentation through a secure portal.

How SureRest handles it

Once SureRest receives the initial notification, we promptly provide the overseas funeral home with a checklist of all documentation required for entry into Nigeria. Through our secure partner portal, funeral homes can upload travel documents, death certificates, embalming certificates, Airway Bills, consular documentation, and other required paperwork directly into the system.

Throughout the repatriation process, partner funeral homes update key milestones such as documentation completion, flight departure, flight arrival, and handover status. Families can securely access the tracking platform at any time to view real-time progress updates and important information regarding their loved one's journey home.

SureRest monitors incoming flights, coordinates cargo collection at the receiving airport, processes all required Ministry of Health and Port Health formalities, manages customs clearance, and arranges dignified transportation to the family or their nominated funeral home.

By combining experienced local coordination with real-time digital tracking, SureRest delivers transparency, accountability, and peace of mind at every stage of the repatriation process.

What to expect

Families and overseas funeral homes are assigned a dedicated SureRest representative who provides clear communication throughout the repatriation process. Through our secure tracking platform, partner funeral homes can upload documents and update case milestones, while families receive secure login access to monitor real-time progress and status updates.

Processing times vary depending on document completion, flight schedules, and the receiving airport. Once all details are confirmed, we will provide realistic timelines and regular updates. Our service is complete once the deceased has been safely handed over to the family or their chosen funeral home in Nigeria.
